Samar
Last year I (Smetty the yacht spotter) took some pictures of the Rising Sun. Today, I spotted this little beauty, named “Samar” (Click on the pictures to enlarge or check the Samar yacht photo group on Flickr).
* Add your own Samar picture to the Samar Flickr group *
The first thing I want to know: “who is the owner and what are the specs?”.
* Google, Google on the net *
…the yacht, built at Devonport Management Limited’s yacht building arm Devonport Yachts, was built for a Kuwait-based millionaire businessman who is a senior figure in a company which specialises in the engineering and financial sectors...
…the yacht will be called ‘Samar’, after the owner’s daughter.
At nearly 77 metres (253ft), it is the biggest yacht to be built in the UK since the 125 metre Royal Yacht Britannia more than 50 years ago.Boasting five decks, accommodation for 12 passengers, 20 crew and four staff, a glass staircase running through the centre of the vessel, a fully-fitted gymnasium, a steam room and hot and cold pools on the upper deck, the boat is the epitome of luxury.
I see this family scene: “hun, I want to do some shopping, can we go there with our yachtie, do you want me to take the snoozy woozy little boat or shall we fly today?” The epitome of luxury. Mmm…

Info by Thomas: “The “Samar” arrived Oslo yesterday and it’s still docked at Rådhusbrygga, witch is the finest harbour in Oslo.
This picture is taken from my office at 6th floor a few hundred metres away. Sadly some nature in the front, but the view is amazing!
The cruiseship behind is Royal Caribbean’s “Jewel Of The Seas“, witch is a 90090 gross tonne cruiseship and in front-left corner you can spot the three masts of “Christian Radich” witch is a 80 year old sail wessel, famous from the movie Cinemiracle.

I live in Stockholm and walked past this boat two days after you took your pictures. Same as you I googled for more info, but found your blog post instead with all the info. Thanks! 😉
Look at that! I took some photos of this yacht as well, which I think was on the 16th, just outside SAS Radisson. I even had the luck to whitness when it left Stockholm (on the 18th at around 5 pm). Did you have the chance to shoot the yacht that was stationed at the same spot a couple of weeks prior to Samar?
I found a useful link if anyone would be interested to follow the SAMAR on its route around the baltic sea:

@Mikael: nope, I wasn’t around. Damm 😉
July 27th spotted the yacht here in Riga, Latvia. Amazing boat!
Today in Riga!

Well, seems like we are a bit late, but we also saw it in Riga ;o) Great little boat.
the beauty is still here in Riga:)
afigennaa jahta
WHO is the OWNER???
I saw it today in Riga. Great boat.
@Alex: “a Kuwait-based millionaire businessman”. Couldn’t find a name yet.
I live in Kuwait , and when it arrives here I will post on the forum who, what when where and all the details.
Hi, the Yacht was still in Riga last night. But regarding the owner – I suggest, we should look to Russia, because the visit days in Riga matches with very popular russian song contest which was visited by many rich people from Russia
Hi, I saw this yacht today in Poland in Port of Gdynia. Yes it is a great boat and very clean 😉 all staff all the time clean this boat :). But who is the owner?
We saw Samar yesterday evening at Kosciuszko Sq. in Gdynia, Poland. The boat is fabulous!
piekna maszyna , gdynia . pozdr
zajebusty jahcik 😀 widzia?, ?em go dzi? w gdyni 😛
I’m sitting at the office, with view over Copenhagen harbor, and Samar has just arrived. Cool boat. 😉
I saw Samar with my boyfriend on Kosciuszko Square in Gdynia (Poland) in 1th August 2006. It is such a beautiful boat with very luxurious details (helicopter….) If You want some photos -write: ewcia.w@poczta.onet.pl
I will send it.
S?oneczne pozdrowienia z Gdyni.
Hi, I’m also sitting with the view over Copenhagen harbor and Samar
Welcome to Gothenburg!!!
One h_l of a boat. I like the chopper, faster than a dinghy when you run out of milk;-)
If you mail me, I have some pictures from 4/8 2006 at lunchtime in kobenhavn, I send it to you
Mail is albinathome@spray.se
There was also a sistershio there at the same place
I also saw it in Copenhagen yesterday (3rd of August)and i want that boat!!
the name of the sistership is Sweatheart. its a refugee who came to denmark during the cold war who owns it
Hello!
The boat is rigt now in the Gothenburg harbur…. What a ship….. The chopper on top is fantastic….
I wonder what kind of problems people like this have… No problem bying milk i guess….
of course i meen that the sistership name is Sweetheart, not sweatheart.
its sick 2 see how much some people spend on a boat when its millions of better things 2 spend that money on in the world and help others, but if i see and look only on the yacht as it is… its beutiful and fantastic! what a ship!
What a SHIP!
I just returned from the habur and I must say SHE is beautiful. I have never seen anything like it and guess if I want to go on board?! The view was magnificent!
I saw the Samar about 3 hours ago in Gothenburg. She is enormous and without a doubt the biggest yacht I’ve ever seen. Right now she lays right next to the Casino Cosmopol in Gothenburg. If you are here, go down and take a peek at her. She is magnificent!
I took some (four) pictures of her in Gothenburg yesterday… She’s a beauty indeed…
And now I can inform that the ship arrived Oslo two hours ago.
Hi Smetty,
Rumour has it that Samar is owned by a Kuwaiti businessman who named the boat after his daughter, I checked out The Forbes list and there are only three Kuwaiti billionaires and only one of them has a child check out this link… http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/10/MH8M.html
Regards
AH
PS, let me know what you think.
She’s still in the Oslo harbour – damn, and ain’t she big!!!
Hi Andy,
I think we are getting very close with your information. 🙂
So: Is the owner Kutayba Alghanim? And does he have a daughter named Samar?
Anyone?
I wonder where its gonna go after it been in Oslo?? is it anyone who knows that???
My guess is Bergen :-=
From VG – Norwegian newspaper:
http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=125796
What a boat..
Truly one of the finest.
I see a lot of nice boats in Puerto Banus in the summer, but this one is a league of its own.
Must be great to pump cash straight up from the ground 🙂
Hello, We were in Oslo from the 7th -10th and had the pleasure of seeing the Samar along with the owner and his daughter. An amazing yacht, out of this world!
Samar left Oslo harbour friday evening at 1850 (0650 pm).
J spent my holiday in gdynia, and j saw Samar. It is preety yacht. Who know how much money Samar costs?
The owner is indeed Kutayba Alghanim, a Kuwaiti Billionaire, owner of Alghanim Industries.
IN MY OPINION OWNER OF SAMAR IS VERY RICH MAN! HA HA GREETINGS FROM SOUTH POLAND!!!
Given both Forbes’ net worth estimates and the fact that Alghanim has only one son, wouldn’t a member of the Al-Kharafi family be more likely? Or has anyone looked into whether there are any billionares of Kuwati decent with U.K., U.S., Swiss, or some other citizenships? Just speculating…

there you go “samar” Alghanin daughter of Kutayba Alghanim

The Samar just arrived in Amsterdam at about 9.30h PM. on 13th of August.
I spotted the boat near to our house when I was leaving the dog out. In Amsterdam, Holland, on the Javakade (13 August)
What an amazing boat. Unfortunately no pictures
Cheers

Maybe Stefan is right (even though the linked web page was awfully tacky), but I’d still keep my money on a member of the Al-Kharafi family. According to Forbes,
http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/10/U38U.html
the head of the family has no children, whereas according to this posting from the American University of Beirut
http://www.aub.edu.lb/activities/doctorates/recipients/2006/kharafi-profile.html
he has at least three sons.
If it’s correct that the beauty is named after the owner’s daughter my guess is that it’s either one of Al-Kharafi’s daugthers or one of his sons’ daugthers.
